Nike Chicago Marathon 2019
Invited back by Nike and Bank of America, we designed the spatial graphics and interactive moments for the 2019 Chicago Marathon — transforming the convention center into an environment built for speed, focus, and anticipation. The goal was to create a system that didn’t just decorate the space, but activated it.
We developed a graphic language inspired by the look and feeling of fast, scaling it across the entire venue to create a unified, high-energy experience. Interactive moments were woven throughout to encourage participation and shareability, turning spectators into contributors and building excitement as the weekend unfolded. A larger-than-life digital clock at the entrance acted as a mind-bending infinity mirror — setting the tone from the moment runners walked in.
Inside, attendees were invited to log their goal times using stickers, layering personal ambition onto a shared wall that evolved over the course of the event. As with all our work, iteration was central — the visual language grew and adapted in real time, mirroring the collective energy of the runners themselves. The result is an experience that feels alive, communal, and unmistakably in motion.
